JOANNA ZHU
President

Joanna Zhu is a clinical psychologist with over 18 years of experience working with Chinese clients across all age groups. She is passionate about raising awareness of mental health in the Chinese community, helping parents raising healthy and happy children and supporting young Chinese psychologists’ ongoing professional development. Joanna’s expertise in working with children and adolescents is much sought after by schools and community groups. Over the years, Joanna generously shared her experience and insights with teachers and parents to understand and help young people in the Chinese community through workshops and radio interviews.
CHENHONG XU

Chenhong Xu is a registered clinical psychologist with experience across community and private settings. Chen currently works as a private clinical psychologist in two different clinics with one focusing on delivering services to the Australian Chinese migrant community. Chen previously founded the Melbourne Multilingual Psychologist Facebook Group, a social media platform for networking and peer support. Prior to becoming a psychologist, Chen worked in interactive media marketing and project management. As a member of ACHPA, Chen wishes more psychologists working with Chinese community can come together to support and nurture each other.
MELISSA WONG

Melissa Wong is a registered psychologist with experience across schools, community and private clinics. Melissa currently works as a psychologist in three different private clinics with one focusing on delivering services to the Australian Chinese migrant community. She has a special interest in supporting clients with Autism Spectrum conditions. As a member of ACHPA, Melissa hopes to network with provisional and registered psychologists working with the Chinese community and to support one another.
DR. SHANNON AIYUEN CHOONG

Shannon is a clinical psychologist currently working with clients across the lifespan within a private practice setting. Prior to working in a private clinic, Shannon also has experience working at two non-profit organisations that focused on assisting individuals with a range of disabilities and mental health issues. Shannon strongly believes that families play a significant role in our mental health and wellbeing. As such, Shannon is passionate about working with families to instil long-term positive changes in an individuals emotional wellbeing.
As a member of the ACHPA, Shannon hopes to be able provide and gain support from like-minded psychologists who are also interested in educating and enhancing the Chinese community’s awareness of the importance of mental health.

JENNY LIAO

Jenny is a registered psychologist practicing in Melbourne. She is part of the second generation of immigrants from China, and has grown up in Australia and New Zealand. She is originally from Guangzhou. Due to this, she understands the difficulties of being a new immigrant and growing up with different cultural norms, identities and values. Therefore, since her graduation she has sought out methods to give back to her culture and mother-land in psychology and mental health. She hopes to provide long term mental health education and services to the Chinese community, so that mental health awareness and treatment options are continually grown in Australia. She hopes to one day provide mental health services to China and Asian countries also, so that healthy psychological wellbeing becomes the norm.

Sharen is a registered Educational and Developmental Psychologist and the director of Sprout Psychology Melbourne, a clinic that specifically works with the neurodivergent population on assessments and interventions. She is passionate in promoting the neurodiversity affirmative paradigm and supporting mental health of people from multicultural backgrounds. She loves connecting with like-minded peers and external stakeholders. She has worked in schools, community and private practice.
ZHI XIANG ON

As a psychologist, On is enthusiastic, compassionate and emphasizing values in creating a collaborative and safe therapeutic relationship to address presented difficulties. On’s approach involves integrating his knowledge in psychology, neurology and psychiatry. He utilises a comprehensive assessment process to make a sound diagnosis, and adopts an individualised, strength-based treatment plan for his clients.
On has previously taught tertiary psychology studies in various institutions, including The University of Melbourne, La Trobe University and Monash University. On is also currently supervising 4th-year Psychology students in various research projects. He has also published in various international peer-reviewed scientific journals in the fields of health psychology, neuropsychology, psychiatry and human cognition.
